Write a lighting brief around the space
Describe the room, the atmosphere you want and the practical role of each light. A bedside lamp, a reception pendant and a restaurant wall light solve different problems. Provide a measured plan, reference photographs and a range of acceptable dimensions. Separate essential requirements from details that can vary between pieces.
Document condition and attribution
Request views of marks, mounts, glass and the wiring route. An Art Deco appearance does not establish a maker or date. Record the evidence supporting an attribution and the alterations disclosed by the seller. Include professional assessment and any required work in the project budget, rather than treating purchase price as the complete installed cost.
Agree the approval sequence
Identify who selects, who approves expenditure and who handles installation. For a group of rooms, approve one reference combination before sourcing the remainder. Similar lamps can create a coherent scheme without being identical, provided differences are intentional. Confirm availability, packing, delivery and installation requirements for each proposal; an editorial selection is not a stock reservation.
