Art Deco industrial desk lamps: joints, balance and reach

A desk lamp must work around the space used for reading and writing.

This former catalogue address now hosts an editorial guide. The object mentioned in the old listing is not advertised as available.

Choose the movement you need

A desk lamp must work around the space used for reading and writing. Measure the footprint of the base and the reach of the arm at the positions you expect to use. Check whether the shade will obstruct your view. An attractive articulated lamp can still occupy too much of a small desk.

Inspect pivots and construction

Request photographs of every joint, the underside of the base and the inside of the shade. Ask whether the arm holds its position without excessive tightening and whether fasteners have been replaced. The old address included GBL; a legible mark or supporting documentation is needed before that becomes a reliable attribution.

Separate appearance from readiness for use

A new-looking cable does not establish that the whole light has been assessed. Ask what work is documented and arrange professional electrical inspection before use. For a hospitality project, approve one lamp in its intended setting before searching for a group. Record acceptable variations in height, finish and construction so later choices remain consistent.
