Identify the complete assembly
The old address combined a greyhound figure, a marble base and a lamp base. For a similar purchase, establish what is included and which elements belong together. A hole or fixing might relate to an earlier function or a later alteration. Do not infer the original arrangement from the current display alone.
Examine projecting details
Request close views of legs, tail, muzzle and the points where the figure meets the base. Ask about breaks, repairs and replacement parts. Photographs should show changes in the surface without strong reflections masking them. A consistent-looking finish in a distant image does not demonstrate that the sculpture has never been restored.
Choose a stable position
Measure the base and inspect its corners and accessible fixings. Agree how the sculpture will be immobilised for transport. A horizontal animal silhouette often needs clear space around its profile to remain legible. In a public interior, avoid positions where bags or clothing might catch fine details. If the assembly is intended to function as a light, have the electrical arrangement assessed before use.
