Set a visual rule for the project
Choose a relationship between works before buying them: a colour range, subject, scale or rhythm of frames. A small detailed painting can suit a pause point while a larger landscape may need a longer viewing distance. Assign a provisional location to every work instead of collecting pieces with no defined place.
Keep a record for each painting
Separate canvas dimensions from framed dimensions and obtain images of the front, signature and reverse. Record condition and known intervention without overstating the evidence. A signature is not, by itself, authentication. If the artist or period determines the purchase, have the attribution examined before it becomes part of the hotel’s description.
Coordinate approval and hanging
Prepare a wall plan with the agreed works and allow room for adjustments in the actual space. Identify who approves the selection and who assesses the fixing method for each wall and weight. Keep photographs of the installed arrangement and the object records together. This supports later maintenance and replacement without promising that another matching painting will be available.
