Measure the frame and the reflection
Record the outside frame dimensions and the visible glass separately. Mark the outline on the intended wall and check the reflection from the room’s entrance. A heavily decorated frame can occupy much more space than the mirror itself. In a hotel or shop, consider circulation and nearby lighting as part of the choice.
Examine glass, decoration and back
Request detailed photographs of corners, mouldings, glass and the reverse. Ageing to the reflective surface may suit the intended look, but it still needs an accurate description. Record missing ornament, differences in finish and known restoration. A repair does not automatically rule out a decorative purchase; it changes what you need to understand about the object.
Arrange support and transport
Establish weight before selecting a fixing method and have the support assessed for the actual wall. Agree how the frame and glass will be protected in transit and how the piece will reach its final location. Keep condition photographs taken before dispatch and on arrival. For a specific size or detail, provide these requirements clearly when asking for a comparable mirror.
